Description: For more than 50 years, Marshall Trimble’s cowboy ballads, folksy storytelling and easy-to-read books have made learning about Arizona history fun and entertaining.
Born in Tempe and raised in Ashford, Marshall has lived and worked in Scottsdale since the 1960s. A life-long educator, he taught history at Coronado High School in the early 1970s, then headed the Southwest Research Center at Scottsdale Community College for decades. He’s authored over two dozen books on Arizona history and countless magazine articles.
Seven governors have appointed him Arizona’s official historian. Although he’s been a sought-after speaker and board member throughout Arizona, his first loyalty is to Scottsdale. He’s a member of Scottsdale’s Museum of the West Board of Trustees, on the Scottsdale Historical Society Advisory Board, helped establish the Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen (as a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran) and has served as the featured speaker at the annual Scottsdale Founders’ Day event since the 1980s.
As someone who loves the landscape, flora and fauna of his native state of Arizona, it is fitting to plant a tree in his honor. Just as he has helped us all grow in the appreciation of Arizona history, so will this tree grow to honor his legacies of teaching, story-telling and serving his country and community.
