Project Information
Budget: $4,600,000
Funding Source: Bonded
Additional Funding Sources: Bond 2019
Project Location: Scottsdale City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.
The first canopy will cover 18 parking spaces and be built along the north side of the City Hall parking lot adjacent to Bennie Gonzalez Way. This canopy will provide 10-feet of clear space below.
A second 16-foot canopy will cover 31 parking spaces and be built in the center of the large parking lot along 75th Street. This canopy provide 15’ of clear space below, allowing for high-profile vehicles and the setup of tents and temporary structures for events.
Construction will disrupt a portion of the parking lot at a time as construction is accomplished in phases. Construction will be suspended July 13 – 21, 2026 to allow the maximum number of parking spaces to be available for voters in the upcoming election. The project will be complete in September 2026.
Funding for the $4.6 million project was approved by voters in the 2019 Bond Election as Project 58: Install Parasol Solar Shade Structure at City Hall Parking Lot.
On April 2, 2024, the City Council approved the design phase contract for solar infrastructure across three City sites. Most recently, on Oct. 21, 2025, Council awarded a construction contract for the first of those projects for the City Hall solar canopy project in an amount not to exceed $1,977,360. The project was also reviewed by the Scottsdale Environmental Advisory Commission at its Aug. 20, 2025 meeting.
