Old Town Pavement Improvement Project | Summer 2025

A series of pavement improvement projects are planned in Old Town this summer. The work is scheduled to start in mid-July and will include new pavement treatments on streets, parking lots and alleyways. If possible, work will be scheduled overnight to minimize disruptions to businesses and the traveling public. The work is expected to be completed in late August, and will be scheduled in three phases:

Phase One | Crack Fill and Fog Seal | July 7-17, 2025

Phase one includes repairs to existing imperfections in the asphalt (crack fill) and application of a roadway surface treatment and asphalt conditioner (fog seal). This work will be scheduled overnight. The crack fill and fog seal materials dry quickly; roads and alleys should be open for vehicle and foot traffic within four hours of application. Find out more about the city’s pavement preservation program online. For project questions or scheduling updates please call the project hotline, 602-301-1325.

Phase Two | Micro Seal | July 13-17, 2025

Phase two of the project will include repairs to existing imperfections in the asphalt (crack fill) and application of a micro seal pavement preservation treatment to extend the life of the asphalt and reduce maintenance costs. This work will be done overnight. Treated areas will remain closed until the area is dry and cones and barricades have been removed. Find out more about the city’s pavement preservation program online. For project questions or scheduling updates please call the project hotline, 623-907-2800.

Phase Three | Mill and Overlay | July 29 – Aug. 28, 2025

A mill and overlay or resurfacing project is required when an asphalt surface has reached its end of life and preventative treatments are no longer beneficial. The process includes grinding up and removing the top layer of asphalt, repairing the sub-base, and applying a new layer of asphalt or hot mix onto the surface. Mill and Overlay construction area maps and project dates will be added to this webpage in mid-July.

Portion Indian Bend Wash Multiuse Path Near Osborn Road Closed for Improvements

Improvements to a section of multiuse pathway adjacent to the Continental Golf Club are underway. Construction will take place between the 3rd St. and Earll Drive alignments and path entrances; work is scheduled Monday – Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The path will be closed approximately two months during construction.

The work includes replacing the existing path surface with new concrete, widening the path from 8 to 10 feet, and applying fresh striping in the area. The bike and pedestrian bridge over Osborn Road is not included in this project; however, the bridge will be closed during construction to allow crews access to the bridge entrances.

Cyclists and pedestrians should follow detour signs along the path directing traffic onto Miller Road using 78th and 2nd streets and Pinchot Drive. We appreciate your cooperation during construction as we work to improve the city’s more than 125 miles of multiuse path amenities.
