Customers are also using rebates to install WaterSense labeled controllers and other water-saving devices.
Homeowners & Grass Removal
- As the weather warms and Bermuda grass comes out of dormancy, it may be an opportune time to prepare for removal. Make your plans, get your quotes and, if chemical treatment is part of your chosen grass removal process, water your grass so it will begin growing. Herbicides work best on actively growing grass. Leave your grass physically in place, even if it has been chemically sprayed, as the city must measure the existing grass prior to removal. Rebates are based on the measured grass to be removed.
- Do not remove your grass until you receive a written Notice to Proceed from the city. Your application must be submitted on or after May 5, 2025, and after application approval, a Notice to Proceed will be issued. If you are working with a contractor, schedule the removal to start after receiving a Notice to Proceed. It typically takes 4 - 6 weeks, depending on the number of applications submitted, for a Notice to Proceed to be issued.
- For a general reference of the upcoming residential grass removal rebate program requirements and timeframes, you can view the previous application. New program requirements are still being reviewed but are anticipated to be similar to last year's application.
Notices:
- All applications will be reviewed and accepted in the order they are received; inspections only occur after application review.
- If you are working with a contractor, be sure to plan your project in advance, as we cannot expedite the approval process to accommodate contractor schedules. It's the applicant's responsibility to plan accordingly.
- If you are purchasing a device such as a WaterSense labeled Controller or Smart Home Water Monitor, purchase it on or after May 5, 2025, to qualify for a rebate.
- If you are completing a rebate project from the previous rebate season, send your name, address and supporting documentation to the Water Conservation Office.

Residential Grass Removal Rebate Closed on Oct. 31, 2025
This rebate received extraordinary participation this program year. Scottsdale Water is excited residents are converting grass to an Arizona-friendly landscape. This rebate will reopen next season (May 2026). During the winter months, Bermuda grass is dormant, making it difficult to properly remove.
How to care for your dormant grass during the winter months
Dormant Bermuda requires minimal water - only about ½” of water per month to keep the stolon (lower part of grass stem) from drying out. When weather warms again, Bermuda comes out of dormancy, making it an opportune time to remove it. Grass must be maintained even if a rebate is planned.
Do not begin your grass removal project until your application is submitted, and you’ve received a Notice to Proceed from the city. Applications will become available in May 2026. Scottsdale Water cannot guarantee rebate requirements, eligibility, or the grass removal rebate amount until rebate launch.
