Attend a community meeting to kick off the design process for the Brown Avenue Parking Structure Expansion. The meeting will take place at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Civic Center Library Auditorium, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd.
This project will expand the city-owned parking structure at First Street and Brown Avenue by adding two levels of parking. Participants at the meeting can meet the project team, learn more about the process and share elements they would like to see in the upgraded structure.
The Old Town Farmers Market is currently held at this location – and will continue here through the 2025/2026 season, when construction preparations on the site are expected to begin.
Scottsdale is working with the Old Town Farmer’s Market to identify a new location in Old Town where it can continue to operate after this project begins.
Jacob Johnson appointed as Scottsdale’s Emergency Manager. As emergency manager, Johnson will oversee Scottsdale’s emergency planning and coordination with local, state, and federal partners. His role is critical in ensuring Scottsdale is well-prepared for natural disasters, public health emergencies, and other major incidents.
Johnson recently earned the Certified Emergency Manager designation through the International Association of Emergency Managers. This designation is widely regarded as the highest professional in the field of emergency management. The organization includes more than 6,000 emergency management professionals worldwide whose goals are saving lives and protecting property and the environment during emergencies and disasters.
Join local veterans’ organizations Memorial Day to honor those who lost their lives in military service. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 26, at the Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen, located adjacent to the Chaplain sculpture on the Civic Center Memorial Lawn, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

Accessible Scottsdale Community Open House. Learn about the city's efforts to complete a self-assessment as part of updating Scottsdale's ADA Transition Plan. The plan ensures that city properties and programs are accessible for all residents and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This open house offers an opportunity to learn more about that process, meet the team conducting the assessment and ask questions. Learn how to convert your grass to xeriscape. Scottsdale Water Conservation staff will share best practices for removing grass and converting your irrigation system from sprinklers to drip. The City of Scottsdale’s grass removal rebate terms will be covered as well as a discussion on proper plants to include in your conversion project.

Scottsdale Senior Services is seeking donations for its annual program that provides homebound, in-need seniors with necessary items for summer relief. Donations for the annual “Beat the Heat” program can be dropped off 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, through May 17, at Via Linda Senior Center, 10440 E. Via Linda. Critical items needed:
- Water bottles
- Brita water pitchers with filters
- Nutritional drinks
