City responds to legal challenge filed against Protect and Preserve Scottsdale tax. The city of Scottsdale is aware that the Goldwater Institute has filed a legal challenge seeking to invalidate the Protect and Preserve Scottsdale tax before it goes into effect on July 1. Scottsdale’s tax was approved by 58.25% of the city’s voters on the November 2024 general election ballot.
Scottsdale is confident its ballot item and election result comply with the Arizona Constitution and all applicable election laws. Scottsdale's legal team is now working to resolve this matter quickly so that the community improvements this tax will pay for can begin when the new fiscal year starts on July 1.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Investing in Our Scottsdale: 77th Street Access Improvements. Vista Del Camino II is a residential community that has long been home to Yaqui families in south Scottsdale adjacent to the Indian Bend Wash. With only one access point from Roosevelt Street to the north, area residents are often cut off from their homes during the rainy season due to flooding at the Indian Bend Wash.
Through a federal Economic Development Initiative grant and local funding, a new mixed-use pathway (which will also function as a vehicular access route during flood events) will be built, providing a much-needed secondary access to the community.
Watch the video and learn more about the project.
FYI
Restoration of the Tributary Wall public art installation on Goldwater Boulevard has been extended through June 20. The southbound travel lane and sidewalk on Goldwater Boulevard are closed from Via Soleri Drive to the Arizona Canal to accommodate the restoration. Crews are removing rocks, repairing the steel baskets (gabions) on the wall, and performing routine maintenance. Please plan extra travel time to avoid delays in the area.
