Scottsdale takes action to improve business notification after street closure issues. Due to the recent failure of a private contractor to notify businesses along 5th Avenue during a street closure associated with construction for a private development project, City Manager Greg Caton has directed safeguards be implemented to improve construction notification processes in the city. Those safeguards will include an additional level of review and coordination to our process to ensure that all businesses who will be impacted by street closures are notified prior to the start of such projects. The city will require proof of communication and audit the communication to ensure compliance. The city will also provide draft templates to assist contractors in providing the type and level of communication we expect, along with direction on the expanse of the notification area that should be served to ensure that the city expectations are easily understood and implemented.

In the instance of the 5th Avenue project, once the city realized the businesses had not been notified, we quickly mobilized to distribute the necessary details to all businesses involved, posted information on all city media channels about businesses being open during construction, removed the road closed signage and established new business access signage for the area. These efforts allowed the traffic to return to normal flows while further outreach and messaging is conducted. We accept responsibility for this lapse in advance communications and have refined our review process to ensure this will not happen again.

FYI

Upgrades are coming to Stonegate Equestrian Park’s playground. A playground replacement project is currently underway at Stonegate Equestrian Park and is expected to be completed in July. The upgrades will feature new play equipment for children ages 3–5 and 5–12, a mix of poured-in-place surfacing and manufactured wood fiber, and shade structures—an addition not included in the previous playground.

The project was identified as a top priority by the city's Certified Playground Safety Inspection team due to the age and condition of the existing equipment. Funding for this project comes from the city's Capital Improvement Plan, which supports infrastructure enhancements, community development, and long-term growth throughout Scottsdale.
