Scottsdale Transportation & Infrastructure delivered major improvements citywide in 2025
The department supported regional travel during the Loop 101 Improvement Project by working closely with ADOT to manage traffic, communicate closures and restore public art, while also protecting infrastructure through nearly 19,000 utility locate requests. Crews upgraded more than 780 streetlights to energy-efficient LED fixtures and expanded Scottsdale Trolley service, including a 70% increase in Spring Training game-day ridership and a new pilot route providing free access to the city’s food bank. Transportation planners advanced active transportation initiatives, secured $17.3 million in federal funding for the Thomas Road reconstruction project and continued promoting Scottsdale as a Gold-Level Bicycle Friendly Community. Pavement and accessibility efforts included installing more than 730 ADA-compliant curb ramps, treating over 820,000 square yards of roadway and completing accelerated resurfacing projects in Old Town. Throughout the year, emergency response teams and engineering staff supported storm recovery, major events and dozens of capital projects, delivering infrastructure that supports Scottsdale’s quality of life now and into the future.
City offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Trash and recycling collection service will not be impacted by the holiday.

The city is hosting two open houses where residents can learn about and comment on proposed changes to the Environmentally Sensitive Lands (ESL) Ordinance and the Fire Code. These updates focus on how fire-defensible space is managed within ESL areas.
The goal of the changes is to modernize the rules, so they better reflect current environmental conditions and address issues identified in the existing ordinance.

Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction: Jan. 17–26.
WestWorld of Scottsdale once again hosts one of the world’s premier collector car auctions, featuring an extraordinary lineup of rare, vintage and exotic vehicles. Visitors don’t need to bid to join the excitement — attendees can take a Thrill Ride or Hot Lap with a professional driver in select Dodge, Toyota and Ford models, or drive a new Cadillac themselves. The event also includes an expansive exhibitor marketplace, live entertainment and a wide range of food and drink options.
The festivities kick off with the second annual Rock the Block concert featuring Cole Swindell on Friday, Jan. 16.

Scottsdale Serenade: Celebrating 75 years of Scottsdale Music and Musicians.
This concert will commemorate the City of Scottsdale’s 75th anniversary year with a special program narrated by the Scottsdale Historian, Joan Fudala, and interspersed with music written over the years about and in Scottsdale. Featuring a unique blend of Scottsdale musical treasures: from classical, choral, instrumental, and chamber music to presentations by Native American, Mariachi, and Western Cowboy musicians, this will be an afternoon of musical and historical discoveries which will help deepen our appreciation of Scottsdale’s culture.

The role oversees daily airfield operations by inspecting runways, taxiways, and facilities; coordinating technician schedules; responding to incidents and emergencies; and enforcing safety, security, and noise abatement regulations. Around the clock training at the Regional Training Center.
Last week, Scottsdale Fire crews trained day and night at the Scottsdale Regional Training Center to sharpen skills and strengthen readiness. Night drills challenged L615, E612, and E605 to operate under limited visibility and high-stress conditions, while daytime training brought Ladder 608 and Rescue 608 together with new recruits to reinforce fundamentals, teamwork, and decision-making.
