Critical Incident Community Briefings

Overview

The Scottsdale Police Department provides Critical Incident Community Briefings (CIBs) as part of its commitment to transparency and open communication with the community. These briefings share preliminary information about critical incidents and offer insight into the circumstances and events surrounding them, based on the information available at the time of release. As investigations continue, additional information may become available that differs from or adds to what is presented.

CIB videos are intended to inform the public. They do not offer conclusions about whether the actions of the officers involved were consistent with department policy or applicable law, and they make no determination about the criminal or civil liability of any person. Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Policy compliance and legal determinations are made through the Department's internal review process and by the appropriate reviewing authorities.

The Department decides whether and when to release a CIB, consistent with legal requirements, victims' rights, and the integrity of ongoing investigations. Videos may not capture everything perceived by the people involved, may be edited for length or clarity, and may be redacted to protect privacy or for other legal reasons. Some videos may contain graphic content. Viewer discretion is advised.
