Scottsdale Water advances improvements to pressure reducing valve facilities.

Scottsdale Water is nearing the halfway point on improvements projects to several Pressure Reducing Valve facilities across the city’s potable water system. Work began on the projects in June as part of Scottsdale’s ongoing investment in aging infrastructure. Two facilities in Desert Highlands are nearing completion, and two additional facilities in Desert Highlands and Desert Mountain are expected to be completed in November. The upgrades will modernize the facilities, add bypass pipelines for greater operational flexibility and improve safety and working conditions for crews performing maintenance and repairs.

Scottsdale strengthens economic ties during Arizona trade mission to Taiwan.

Scottsdale leaders joined a statewide Arizona Commerce Authority trade mission to Taiwan to strengthen international relationships and explore opportunities connected to the region’s growing semiconductor and technology economy. The delegation participated in SEMICON Taiwan and met with government, business and industry leaders, including New Taipei City officials, while Scottsdale highlighted its potential to support companies expanding in Arizona. ASM is investing more than $500 million in a new U.S. flagship innovation hub in Scottsdale that is expected to create approximately 1,200 jobs, as Arizona has attracted more than 70 semiconductor projects representing more than $314 billion in announced investment since 2020.

Join the Scottsdale 75 Picture Scavenger Hunt.

Never been to Taliesin West? Or the Mustang Wall at Mustang Library? The Scottsdale 75th Anniversary Picture Scavenger Hunt is underway, offering a fun way to explore places you’ve never visited and revisit longtime favorites across the city. This all-ages community challenge highlights the people, places and history that have shaped Scottsdale.

Using the Seeker app, participants visit 75 designated locations, take selfies to earn points and can pick up some city swag while learning more about the West’s Most Western Town. Complete all 75 stops and bonus activities to be entered to win grand prizes.

Free fall workshops help Scottsdale residents save water.

Scottsdale Water is offering a series of free fall workshops to help residents conserve water, improve landscape efficiency, understand utility bills and learn more about the city’s long-term water supply. From September through November, workshops will cover topics including converting grass to xeriscape, selecting desert-friendly plants, detecting leaks, understanding rebates and learning about Scottsdale’s diversified water portfolio. The series also includes a guided tour of the Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden, where residents can see practical examples of water-efficient landscaping.

Strong neighborhoods start with engaged residents. Scottsdale’s Neighborhood College gives residents, neighborhood groups and homeowners associations the knowledge, resources and tools to help address community issues and become effective neighborhood leaders.

Learn from professional and volunteer instructors through classes covering city programs and services, volunteer opportunities, personal safety, HOA guidelines and more. Classes are free, but registration is required.

Multiuse path closure: Indian Bend Wash.

The section of multiuse path between McDowell Road and Roosevelt Street will be closed starting Monday, Sept. 14. Path users should follow the bike and pedestrian detour signs in the area; the closure is expected to remain in place until Oct. 19. The closure is part of the city’s Indian Bend Wash Repair Lakes and Irrigation project.

Share your input on Chaparral Dog Park improvements.

Chaparral Dog Park is already a favorite among Scottsdale’s four-legged residents and their people, and we’re looking at ways to make it even better. Scottsdale Parks & Recreation is gathering community input on future improvements to the existing park, including shade, seating, water fountains, waste stations, dog play features and walking paths. Share your input through Sept. 30 and help us identify what improvements matter most to you and your pup.

Nominations for Scottsdale Salutes program are open.

Bring your creativity to Old Town Scottsdale this holiday season by participating in Merry Main Street’s Holiday Window Painting program. Artists 18 and older can submit winter-themed artwork through Oct. 10 for the chance to be selected by a Main Street business, receive a $500 stipend and have their work showcased as part of a festive holiday art trail. Designs should celebrate Old Town’s unique character, incorporating themes such as the Sonoran Desert, Western and Indigenous cultures, Scottsdale history, shopping, dining or the city’s 75th anniversary.

Calling all Arizona artists!

The program recognizes local veterans, active-duty military members and National Guard and reserve members. Selected honorees will have banners displayed on Old Town light poles for two weeks in November, be recognized at a special Veterans Day reception and be invited to participate in the annual Parada del Sol Historic Parade. Nominees must live in Scottsdale, have previously lived in the city or have a strong local connection, such as working in Scottsdale for at least five years. Nominations are open through Friday, Sept. 25.

Scottsdale honors food bank supervisor Jonathan Montoya for 26 years of service.

The city recently recognized National Food Bank Day by highlighting Scottsdale Food Bank Operations Supervisor Jonathan Montoya, who has served the community for 26 years. Jonathan works alongside staff and volunteers to collect roughly 1,500 to 2,500 pounds of produce for Food Bank clients almost every day. For him, the work goes beyond providing food, it’s about connecting with residents, helping people through challenging times and easing the burden of another household expense.

Thunderbird Park tennis courts get a refresh.

Work is underway to reconstruct the tennis courts at Thunderbird Park, along with improvements to fencing and lighting. The project is expected to continue through mid-November, bringing updated courts and an improved experience for players. The improvements are made possible through the Parks and Preserve Sales Tax. What’s that liquid on Scottsdale roads?

That dark coating you may see on Scottsdale streets is liquid road, a pavement treatment designed to protect asphalt from UV rays and moisture. The treatment helps extend pavement life, maintain a smooth driving surface and delay more extensive repairs. Residents can check Scottsdale’s interactive Pavement Preservation Map to see current projects and planned treatments over the next 10 years.
