Free fall workshops help Scottsdale residents save water

Scottsdale Water is inviting residents to participate in a series of free fall workshops designed to help customers save water, manage their landscapes, understand their water bills and learn more about Scottsdale’s long-term water supply.

The workshops, led by Scottsdale Water Conservation staff, cover practical topics ranging from converting grass to desert-friendly landscaping and programming irrigation controllers to identifying leaks, understanding rebates and learning where Scottsdale’s water comes from.

Fall 2026 Workshop Schedule

Converting Grass to Xeriscape and Plant Selection
1 to 3 p.m. | Thursday, Sept. 10
Mustang Library

Learn best practices for removing grass and converting irrigation systems from sprinklers to drip. Scottsdale Water Conservation staff also will explain the City’s residential grass removal rebate and discuss how to select appropriate plants for a desert-friendly landscape.

What’s on My Water Utility Bill? / Intro to WaterSmart
10 to 11:30 a.m. | Tuesday, Sept. 22

Learn how to read and understand the charges on a Scottsdale water utility bill. Participants also will receive an introduction to WaterSmart, a free online water monitoring portal available to Scottsdale Water customers.

Water Efficiency & Controller Programming
9 to 11 a.m. | Thursday, Oct. 8
Civic Center Library

Learn how to take control of landscape watering. The workshop will cover common irrigation problems, watering mistakes, controller programming and practical ways to improve outdoor water efficiency.

I Have a Leak! Where Do I Start?
1 to 2 p.m. | Tuesday, Oct. 27
Mustang Library

Scottsdale Water Conservation staff will demonstrate how to read a water meter and use it to identify and isolate potential leaks on a property. Participants also will learn how WaterSmart can help identify unusual water use and catch leaks early.

All About Rebates
10 a.m. to noon | Thursday, Oct. 29
Via Linda Senior Center

Learn about Scottsdale’s water conservation rebates for residents and homeowners associations. Staff will explain available programs and how customers can save water while earning money through qualifying projects.

Scottsdale’s Water Supply
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Saturday, Nov. 7
Mustang Library

Learn where Scottsdale’s water comes from and how the city is preparing for the future. The workshop will provide an overview of Scottsdale’s diversified water portfolio and long-term water supply preparedness.

Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden Tour
10 a.m. to noon | Monday, Nov. 16
Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden

Take a guided walking tour through Scottsdale’s demonstration garden and see firsthand how desert-friendly landscaping can be both beautiful and practical. The tour offers an opportunity to explore plants and landscape ideas that can be incorporated into residential conversion projects.
