Most city offices and facilities will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.

Trash and recycling collection is not affected. Place your containers in their usual spot by 5 a.m. the morning of collection or the night before.

Just $2 a month helps Scottsdale neighbors in need.

Scottsdale utility customers who participate in the voluntary Scottsdale Cares program will now contribute a minimum of $2 per month through their utility bill to support nonprofit organizations serving families, seniors, youth and vulnerable residents. Since its launch in 1995, the program has raised more than $5 million, with every donated dollar going directly to community organizations that provide services such as housing assistance, workforce readiness and youth development. Customers can enroll or increase their tax-deductible contribution through their online utility account, the SurePay program or the city's online donation portal.

Scottsdale earns national honors for financial reporting and procurement excellence.

The city has earned two national awards recognizing its commitment to transparency, accountability and responsible financial management: the Government Finance Officers Association's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, marking the city's 53rd consecutive year receiving the honor, and the 2026 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute. The awards recognize Scottsdale's high standards in financial reporting, public purchasing, ethical practices and the effective stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Scottsdale closes enforcement gap on commercial events at short-term rentals.

Scottsdale City Council approved a new ordinance that strengthens enforcement against short-term rentals operating as commercial event venues by defining what qualifies as an "event center," closing a gap in state law that previously made enforcement more difficult. The ordinance clarifies that short-term rentals cannot be used for weddings, corporate events, large parties or other commercial gatherings while preserving normal residential use and builds on Scottsdale's multidisciplinary short-term rental enforcement program that uses technology, data analysis and coordinated enforcement to improve compliance.

Celebrate the 4th of July at WestWorld.

Get ready for a fun evening of live entertainment and family-friendly activities inside the air-conditioned coolness of WestWorld’s North Hall as Scottsdale gears up for this annual celebration. Taking place from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, July 4, the festivities will culminate with one of the largest fireworks displays in Arizona in the skies above WestWorld. Scottsdale Water has launched WaterQuestions@ScottsdaleAZ.gov, a dedicated email address that connects residents directly with water experts to answer questions about drought, Colorado River conditions, water supply, conservation, groundwater and the city's long-term water planning. The initiative is part of Scottsdale Water's broader effort to increase transparency, improve public understanding and provide accurate, Scottsdale-specific information as water issues continue to make headlines across the Southwest. Questions submitted through the email are reviewed by Scottsdale Water staff and routed to subject matter experts, giving residents a trusted source for information about the city's water resources, conservation programs and future infrastructure investments.

Scottsdale Parks & Recreation is reminding hikers to make heat safety a priority during the summer months. Extreme temperatures can quickly turn an outdoor adventure into a dangerous situation, making it important to plan ahead, hike during cooler times of the day and come prepared with water and sun protection. The reel (short-form video) encourages residents and visitors to know their limits and recognize the risks associated with hiking in the desert heat.

Scottsdale Public Library shared a playful reminder that readers don't have to stop at just one book. With a Scottsdale Public Library card, patrons can check out up to 30 books at a time, making it easy to stock up on their next great reads. Whether you're diving into a new series or exploring different genres, there's always room for one more book.

Scottsdale Police shared tips to help residents protect their homes while traveling this summer. The reel highlights the department’s Vacation Watch Program, which allows residents to request extra patrols around their property during an absence.
