Scottsdale earns national honors for financial reporting and procurement excellence
The city of Scottsdale has once again earned national recognition for excellence in financial management, receiving two prestigious awards that highlight the city's longstanding commitment to transparency, accountability and responsible stewardship of public funds.
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded Scottsdale its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the city's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. The award is considered the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Scottsdale has now received the distinction for 53 consecutive years.
In addition, the city received the 2026 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute, recognizing Scottsdale's adherence to nationally recognized best practices and rigorous standards in public purchasing.
The dual honors demonstrate Scottsdale's focus on maintaining strong financial management practices while ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently and transparently.
"These awards reflect the professionalism, expertise and dedication of our financial services team," said City Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer Sonia Andrews. "Residents expect their city government to be a responsible steward of public resources, and these recognitions demonstrate our commitment to transparency, accountability and sound financial management practices."
The GFOA award recognizes governments that go beyond minimum reporting requirements to produce financial reports that clearly communicate their financial condition and operations. According to the association, the program promotes transparency and full disclosure while helping governments present financial information in a manner that is accessible and useful to residents, elected officials and other stakeholders.
The National Procurement Institute's Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award honors public agencies that demonstrate innovation, professionalism, productivity, leadership and the effective use of technology in procurement operations.
Andrews credited two key members of her leadership team for helping secure the awards.
Assistant City Treasurer and Assistant Chief Financial Officer Anna Henthorn oversees the city's accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of Scottsdale's financial documents. Purchasing Director Jenn Myers leads the city's procurement operations, helping ensure consistent application of purchasing policies, ethical standards and industry best practices.
"These achievements are the result of a collaborative effort across the organization," Andrews said. "Anna, Jenn and their teams work tirelessly behind the scenes to uphold the highest standards of financial reporting and procurement excellence. Their dedication helps ensure Scottsdale remains a trusted and financially strong organization."
The awards continue a tradition of excellence that has made Scottsdale a recognized leader in local government financial management.
