Scottsdale names Cassie Johnson interim general manager of WestWorld
The city of Scottsdale has appointed Cassie Johnson as interim general manager of WestWorld, naming her to oversee one of the nation's premier event and equestrian venues as it continues to strengthen its role as an economic engine and community destination.
Since January, Johnson has been on special assignment supporting WestWorld, where she has become deeply familiar with the facility's operations while leading efforts to advance the WestWorld Strategic Plan, improve operational efficiency, modernize technology, strengthen internal controls, and support long-term financial and facility planning.
"WestWorld is an important asset for Scottsdale, and Cassie has the experience, leadership and collaborative approach needed to build on the progress already underway," Deputy City Manager Judy Doyle said. "She understands our organization, values strong partnerships and is committed to ensuring WestWorld continues serving our residents, event partners and visitors at the highest level."
WestWorld hosts hundreds of events each year, attracting residents and visitors from across Arizona and around the world. The 386-acre campus is home to nationally recognized equestrian competitions, automotive auctions, consumer and trade shows, sporting events, festivals and community celebrations that generate significant economic activity and reinforce Scottsdale's reputation as a premier destination.
"I'm honored to serve as interim general manager and continue working alongside the exceptional WestWorld team," Johnson said. "WestWorld is one of Scottsdale's most unique community assets, and I look forward to building on the strong foundation that's already in place. Together with our staff, event partners and stakeholders, we'll continue delivering exceptional experiences while positioning the facility for long-term success."
Johnson began her career with the city of Scottsdale as an intern in 2011 and has spent nearly 13 years serving the city in progressively responsible leadership positions. Prior to joining WestWorld, she served as deputy director of strategic initiatives for the Scottsdale Police Department, where she provided executive oversight of strategic planning, accreditation, budget and finance, police records, organizational performance, communications and special projects.
Throughout her career, Johnson has led citywide initiatives involving public safety, budgeting and finance, strategic planning, emergency management, organizational development, process improvement, technology implementation and community engagement. She has also served in leadership roles with professional organizations at the local, state, national and international levels, including as treasurer of Engaging Local Government Leaders, president of the Arizona Police Accreditation Coalition and as an academic associate in Arizona State University's School of Public Affairs.
Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Public Administration from Arizona State University, as well as a Master of Arts in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School's Center for Homeland Defense and Security.
