Scottsdale volunteers contribute more than $4.3 million in service value in 2025

Citizen volunteers continued to play a vital role in supporting the city of Scottsdale in 2025, contributing thousands of hours of service across city programs and departments.

Last year, 4,695 volunteers donated a combined 129,109 hours of service to Scottsdale. Using the Independent Sector’s established value of volunteer time for Arizona — $33.70 per hour — those efforts represent more than $4.3 million in community value, equivalent to the work of 62 full-time employees.

“Scottsdale’s volunteers exemplify what civic pride and community partnership look like in action,” said City Manager Greg Caton. “Their willingness to give their time and energy allows the city to enhance services, extend our reach and continue delivering exceptional results for residents.”

Beyond the measurable impact, volunteers help the city stay closely connected to the community by sharing firsthand perspectives, ideas and feedback that inform how services are delivered. Their involvement helps ensure the city remains responsive to the needs and priorities of residents.

The city’s Adopt-a-Road program had the largest volunteer participation in 2025, engaging 1,930 volunteers. The program supports community pride by keeping Scottsdale’s streets and roadways litter-free. Residents, organizations and groups may adopt designated road segments or participate in one-time cleanups, making a visible and lasting impact on the city’s appearance and environmental health.

Volunteers also remain vital to the success of the Scottsdale Food Bank, which relies on a dedicated group of individuals who serve on regular weekly schedules, as well as community groups who support one-time or periodic volunteer opportunities. Their assistance helps ensure food resources are efficiently distributed to those in need.

The Scottsdale Public Library continued to excel in engaging teen volunteers through both schoolyear and summer programs. Teen volunteers play a key role in supporting library operations and are especially critical to the library’s popular Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages residents of all ages to read and earn prizes for reaching reading milestones.

Together, these efforts highlight the significant impact of Scottsdale’s volunteer program and the community’s strong culture of service. The city remains committed to supporting and expanding volunteer opportunities that strengthen neighborhoods, support essential services and contribute to Scottsdale’s reputation as a world-class community.

“Scottsdale’s volunteer program gives people meaningful ways to connect with and contribute to their community,” said Volunteer Coordinator Brandon Chapman. “In turn, volunteers play a vital role in helping the city deliver essential services, creating a lasting cycle of care, partnership and giving.”
