Scottsdale Public Library marks record summer of reading and programs

This summer, Scottsdale Public Library buzzed with energy as thousands of residents embraced reading challenges, packed onsite programs, and connected through services and activities.

Nearly 7,000 people of all ages signed up for the annual Summer Reading Challenge — an increase from the previous year. Of those, close to 3,300 participants achieved the milestone of reading 1,000 minutes or more, also an improvement over last summer. Collectively, participants logged an impressive 7 million minutes of reading during the season. The challenge encourages readers to set aside time each day to build positive reading habits.

“We are thrilled to see how Scottsdale residents embraced this year’s Summer Reading Challenge,” said Library Department Director Mike Beck. “The strong participation in both reading and programs for all ages shows just how much our community values lifelong learning and literacy. We’re grateful to the Scottsdale City Council, the Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library and the Maricopa County Library District for their continued support in making our summer a success.”

In addition to the reading challenge, the library hosted nearly 200 free programs for toddlers, children, teens, and adults. Through these, more than 7,500 people enjoyed story times, STEM activities, art workshops, book discussion groups, and live music performances.

The library also supported youth well-being through the Kids Café at Civic Center Library, providing more than 3,700 free lunches to children and teens. Offered in partnership with Scottsdale Unified School District, the program ensures that young people have access to nutritious meals during the summer months when school is not in session.

Scottsdale Public Library serves the community through its four branches: Civic Center Library, Mustang Library, Arabian Library, and Appaloosa Library. For more information about the library’s programs and services, visit ScottsdaleLibrary.org.
