Scottsdale commemorates 25th anniversary of 9/11 with exhibits and remembrance ceremony
Scottsdale will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with memorial exhibits throughout September and a public reading of the names of those who died.
The exhibits feature replicas representing the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon and an airplane wing, along with a metal memorial flag. Each is adorned with photographs and information honoring those who lost their lives.
The exhibits will be displayed at Scottsdale libraries and Police and Fire Headquarters:
- Civic Center Library: World Trade Center towers, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd.
- Mustang Library: Public Safety Memorial Flag, 10101 N. 90th St.
- Arabian Library: Pentagon, 10215 E. McDowell Mountain Ranch Road
- Appaloosa Library: Airplane wing, 7377 E. Silverstone Drive
- Scottsdale Police and Fire Headquarters: World Trade Center steel and other memorial pieces, 8401 E. Indian School Road
Those who visit each exhibit location will receive a special commemorative gift.
A special reading of the names of those who died in the attacks will begin at 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the West Bowl of Scottsdale Civic Center, near Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket for the approximately two-and-a-half-hour remembrance ceremony.
The public is also invited to share memories of Sept. 11 and information about their participation in National Day of Service activities. Visit ScottsdaleAZ.gov and search “9/11 share your memories.”

September is also Emergency Preparedness Month. Scottsdale is offering several free classes to help community members prepare for emergencies:
