Scottsdale announces new Senior Director of Economic Development & Tourism
The city of Scottsdale has selected Kevin Burke as its new Senior Director of Economic Development & Tourism, bringing proven leadership, strategic insight and a strong record of fostering business growth to one of the nation’s most dynamic communities.
In this role, Burke will provide executive leadership in overseeing the strategic direction and management of the city’s Economic Development and Tourism departments. These departments drive business recruitment, retention, expansion and small business support; implement and oversee domestic and international economic development strategies; develop and market tourism and events; and manage contract creation, monitoring, and compliance. The senior director also advances priority projects that drive high-quality job creation, sustainable growth, and Scottsdale’s long-term economic vitality.
Burke joins Scottsdale with more than 15 years of experience in economic development and municipal leadership, most recently serving as Executive Management Advisor as well as Deputy Director of Economic Initiatives for the city of Tucson, where he oversaw strategic initiatives across a $2.4 billion municipal organization. In his role as Deputy Director of Tucson’s Office of Economic Initiatives, Burke led the city’s economic development strategic plan and partnered with regional and state agencies on high-impact projects. His career includes municipal leadership and economic development roles across multiple cities in Arizona and Texas.
“Kevin brings a wealth of experience to this critical position,” City Manager Greg Caton said. “Although Kevin has experience in multiple states, he is from Arizona and is well versed in the intricacies of economic development and tourism in Arizona. When compared to other similar communities, Scottsdale is a leader in Economic Development and Tourism and this selection is a key component in our strategy.”
The city of Scottsdale’s Economic Development and Tourism departments work to attract, grow, and retain businesses; support entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystems; and enhance the city’s competitive position across key industry sectors. The departments also collaborate closely with regional and state partners to advance Scottsdale’s role as a leader in economic opportunity.
Burke will begin his new role on Dec. 29.
