Scottsdale Airport to host final Master Plan workshop March 12

Recommended development concept to be shared with community

Scottsdale Airport will host its final public workshop on the Airport Master Plan Update from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Aviation Business Center, 15000 N. Airport Drive.

The drop-in workshop will give residents, pilots, business owners and community members an opportunity to review key findings from the multi-year planning effort. Display boards will outline the recommended development concept, proposed capital improvements and updated economic benefit analysis. Airport staff and planning consultants will be available to answer questions. No formal presentation is planned, and attendees may arrive at any time during the event.

The updated economic analysis shows Scottsdale Airport and the surrounding Airpark generate approximately $1.1 billion annually in total economic output. That figure demonstrates the airport’s role as a major employment and business center for the region.

As part of the master planning process, the airport evaluated how future facilities can safely accommodate the next generation of business aircraft, which often have slightly larger wingspans, while maintaining the airport’s existing role and operational profile. The recommended development concept is designed to align with Federal Aviation Administration standards and meet projected aviation demand over the next 20 years.

“The master plan provides a long-term framework to maintain safety, efficiency and economic strength,” City Manager Greg Caton said. “It reflects careful planning and community input and positions the airport to remain a strong economic asset for years to come.”

A key component of the update is the Airport Layout Plan, which will be submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration once the planning process concludes. The master plan itself does not authorize construction. Instead, it serves as a guide for future development and helps ensure the airport remains eligible for federal funding opportunities.

Following the March 12 workshop, the draft plan will move through additional public review steps. The Airport Advisory Commission is scheduled to consider the plan April 15. A City Council work study session is planned for June 23, with final City Council action anticipated in July.
