Operation Safe Passage
The Scottsdale Police Department continued its Operation Safe Passage initiative on Oct. 16 and 17, 2026, conducting focused traffic enforcement in the Down Town District to address impaired driving, excessive speeding, and other dangerous driving behaviors.
Over the two-night operation, officers made 60 enforcement contacts, resulting in seven DUI arrests. Additional enforcement activity included four criminal speeding violations, two reckless driving violations, 10 civil speeding violations, and 15 other moving violations. Officers also issued 35 warnings.
Of the seven drivers arrested for DUI, four were also stopped for criminal speeding violations, including one driver traveling more than 100 mph. These incidents highlight the significant dangers associated with impaired driving and excessive speed, particularly in areas with increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Operation Safe Passage is part of the Scottsdale Police Department's ongoing commitment to roadway safety through proactive enforcement and coordinated efforts to identify and address high-risk driving behaviors. By targeting these violations, officers aim to prevent serious collisions and improve safety for residents and visitors.
The Scottsdale Police Department reminds drivers that roadway safety is a shared responsibility. Make responsible decisions behind the wheel, obey posted speed limits, and never drive impaired. Plan ahead by designating a sober driver or using a rideshare service.
"Impaired driving and excessive speeding put innocent lives at risk, and we will not tolerate that behavior on Scottsdale's roadways. Operation Safe Passage reflects our commitment to proactive enforcement and preventing tragedies before they happen." Police Chief Joe LeDuc said. "We will continue these focused enforcement operations, holding dangerous drivers accountable and doing everything we can to ensure our residents, businesses, and visitors remain safe. Everyone deserves to get home safely, and that will remain our priority.”
