Scottsdale flood protection project earns national Project of the Year award.
Scottsdale's Rawhide Wash Flood Hazard Mitigation project earned the 2026 American Public Works Association Public Works Project of the Year award for its innovative design, regional collaboration and lasting community impact. The $30 million project reduced flood risk along 1.6 miles of Rawhide Wash, removing nearly 1,900 acres from the FEMA-designated floodplain and eliminating the federal flood insurance requirement for hundreds of affected property owners. The project also highlights the city's commitment to public safety, environmental stewardship and resilient infrastructure.
Scottsdale streamlines resident service with faster response times. Over the past year, the city completed more than 40,000 ScottsdaleEZ service requests and resolved more than 1,000 complex constituent cases, making it easier for residents to report issues and receive coordinated assistance. During its first year, the Constituent Services team resolved approximately 74% of cases within one business day and nearly 99% within five business days by working across multiple city departments to address neighborhood and community concerns. As the program enters its second year, the city plans to expand performance tracking and reporting tools to identify service trends, improve response times and continue enhancing customer service.
Scottsdale strengthens wildfire prevention with new hot work notification requirement. As part of ongoing wildfire-risk reduction efforts, the Scottsdale Fire Department now requires contractors to provide 24-hour advance notice before performing hot work in designated Wildland Urban Interface and open space areas near the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The requirement applies to activities such as welding, cutting, grinding, brazing and torch-applied roofing. The advisory also requires specific job-site safety measures, and failure to comply may result in a stop-work order, citation or denial of a certificate of occupancy.

Safety Luau at Eldorado Aquatic Center. Celebrate the last days of summer before school begins with a luau and movie! Our annual Safety Luau is a fun and FREE event where you will learn about water safety while you practice your hula skills and play at the pool. We’ll end the night with a showing of the movie “Muppet Treasure Island.”

Scottsdale Water asks residents to skip overseeding this fall. Because outdoor irrigation accounts for roughly 65% of residential water use in Scottsdale, reducing outdoor water use is one of the most effective ways to conserve water. Establishing and maintaining a winter lawn requires considerable amounts of time, energy, money, and water. Scottsdale asks its residents to forgo overseeding some or all landscaping in an effort to reduce water demand. Instead, residents are encouraged to enjoy publicly available greenspace in parks and preserves. Learn more about the benefits of not overseed by visiting ScottsdaleAZ.gov and searching “overseed.”

The city shared a behind-the-scenes look at the expansion of the Solid Waste Transfer Station, a key infrastructure project designed to improve efficiency, increase capacity and support reliable waste services for years to come. While largely out of public view, the investment will help strengthen Scottsdale's solid waste operations and support the city's long-term sustainability goals. The project reflects Scottsdale's continued commitment to providing dependable services for a growing community.
Scottsdale’s legendary “Lake Monster” story. The city's latest #ThrowbackThursday reel revisits a local legend from 1968 at El Dorado Park. Shortly after the lake was stocked with fish, stories spread about a massive fish that supposedly pulled a child into the water, inspiring generations of kids to visit the park in hopes of catching Scottsdale’s own "lake monster." Whether fact or folklore, the tale remains a fun piece of Scottsdale history.
K-9 Fender lends a paw for Back to School Program. Scottsdale Human Services welcomed a special helper as Crisis Response K-9 Fender joined staff in preparing for the city's Back to School Program. The program provides income-eligible Scottsdale students in Pre-K through 12th grade with essential school supplies, clothing and shoes to help them start the school year ready to succeed. Thanks to generous community donations, students will head back to class feeling prepared and confident.
