THE STAGE IS SET: SCOTTSDALE CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
ANNOUNCES THE 2009–10 SEASON. After more than a year of renovation and renewal, the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is embarking upon a new era with the opening of its state-of-the-art Virginia G. Piper Theater and a star-studded 2009-10 season of dance, jazz, classical and world music, theater and satire. The new 852-seat Virginia G. Piper Theater will offer the latest lighting and acoustic technology as well as dramatic improvements in sightlines, climate control, seating and audience accessibility. Other improved amenities include a new box office, mezzanine and café managed by Arcadia Farms . Commissioned by the Scottsdale Public Art Program for the atrium, a radiant work by artist Kana Tanaka will feature more than 100 blown-glass pieces illuminated with fiber-optic lighting. “Saturday Sounds” Concerts in the Scottsdale Arts District - Saturdays, 1-4 pm, FREE December 5, 2009 thru March 2010 along the Scottsdale ArtWalk at the northwest corner of Main Street & Marshall Way.

Salt River Project will be draining the Arizona Canal from Scottsdale Road to Goldwater Blvd starting January 8th. The dry-up will last for about 4 weeks while crews assess the canal bottom, clean it, and install a new conduit. The FISH ROUND-UP took place on January 8th and removed the vaulable fish that inhabit the canal for purposes of eating algae and moss. Check out the YouTube

57TH ANNUAL PARADA DEL SOL is scheduled for February 20, 2010. This parade has the distinction of being known as the World's Largest Horse drawn Parade. The Parade will be held on Saturday February 20th, 2010 at 10:00 am. The Parade runs north up Scottsdale Road from Oak to Indian School. The applications are rolling in and this will be one parade you won’t want to miss. Don’t forget the new date, February 20th, Grab a seat and come hang out with the Parada del Sol. TAKE YOURSELF OUT TO THE BALLGAME - Spring Training returns to Scottsdale Stadium in March 2010 with a line up of exciting games. The San Francisco Giants will train at the stadium in preparation for the 2010 baseball season. You can take in a game from the reserved seats or relax on the lawn.
