HEADLINES

Proposed Fiscal Year 2017/18 operating and capital budgets slated for April 4 release. Here's the tentative City Council budget review schedule: April 25 - Presentation of proposed operating and capital budgets; May 9 - Direction on budget-related items (if needed); May 23 - Public hearing and tentative budget adoption and rates and fees adoption; June 13 - Public hearing and final budget adoption and truth and taxation hearing; and June 27 - Final adoption of tax levies. Review the proposal Tuesday.

Scottsdale Madness Mania street experience runs March 31-April 2. Scottsdale is expecting big crowds Downtown thanks to the NCAA Final Four games in Glendale. Businesses along Indian Plaza, Saddlebag Trail and Shoeman Lane are hosting a street experience along with a daytime 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Streets will be closed early Friday, March 31, through 10 a.m. Monday, April 3. 

April is Water Awareness Month. Celebrate Water Awareness Month by learning how to save water both indoors and out. Take a free water efficiency class, request free landscaping and leak brochures, explore the Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden at Chaparral Park, and visit Arizona Water Awareness for Valleywide water events and tips.

EVENTS

Attend season's final Sunday A'Fair outdoor concert April 2. Listen to the Valley's top musicians and experience an arts-and-crafts market. The free afternoon event takes place from noon to 4 p.m., on the Civic Center Mall. Bring a blanket and picnic basket, or buy food on-site.

Arizona Bike Week rides into WestWorld April 5-9. This event features nightly concerts, demo rides, stunt shows and hundreds of vendors.  

Run the Runway race offers "plane" old fun. This one-of-a-kind race, Run the Runway, takes off Saturday, April 8, at Scottsdale Airport. Family fun follows. Use promo code "airplane" for a 25 percent discount.

Please your palate at the Scottsdale Culinary Festival April 8 & 9. Expert chefs, scrumptious food creations and enthralling entertainment are all part of the mix, culminating with the Great Arizona Picnic.

Stadium hosts campout sleepover. Family fun at this event includes stadium tours, a home-run derby, batting cages, fireside stories and more! The event runs from 4 p.m. Saturday, April 8, through 8:30 a.m. Sunday, April 9.

Cycle the Arts pedals off April 9. Hop on your bike and get a personal look at some of the Valley's best public art. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Scottsdale Museum of the West, 3830 N. Marshall Way. Helmets are required.

Parks & Rec's summer class brochure hits the streets early April. Get details on summer camps, recreation programs and classes, special events, senior programs, fall afterschool programs, facility and pool schedules, park listings and more.

Caution - native wildlife active in spring. Urban animals such as bobcats, coyotes, javelina, raccoons and skunks can sometimes be seen in neighborhoods this time of year. Help to discourage urban wildlife from living in your area by removing essentials of wildlife habitat such as water, food and shelter.

Protect your identity by attending "Shred It" event, Saturday. Bring your personal and/or commercial documents to the "Shred It" event from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, in the Wal-Mart parking lot, 15355 N. Northsight Blvd. A $3 per box donation is suggested.

Indoor fresh air topic of April 6 Green Building Lecture. Learn about options for getting fresh air ventilation while keeping your home airtight and energy efficient. The free program runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Granite Reef Senior Center.

Learn how to grow your business at digital media classes. Eureka Loft at Civic Center Library hosts "Video Editing for Business" at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. Bring your laptop if you have editing software to the free class.
