Scottsdale Airport, a 2023 Scottsdale History Hall of Fame inductee, is among the top 10 busiest single-runway airports globally. Located in the Scottsdale Airpark, it is favored by corporate executives and sports celebrities. Originally Thunderbird Airfield Number Two, it trained WWII pilots and later hosted a technical trade school and Thunderbird Academy. Opened in 1967, the airport now has an extended runway for long-range jets and processes international arrivals. Operating self-sufficiently, it managed nearly 170,000 takeoffs and landings in 2022. During the 2023 Super Bowl, it handled 490 corporate jet operations in 24 hours, generating significant economic benefits.
