Planned Improvements to Jackrabbit Road & Miller Road Intersection
Project Overview
Changes are planned for the intersection of Jackrabbit Road and Miller Road The improvements will enhance pedestrian and bicycle access to the AZ Canal path and improve driver awareness at the intersection. The Transportation Sales Tax will fund the design and construction of the project. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2023.
A traffic study, at the intersection of Jackrabbit Road and Miller Road, was initiated following receipt of a citizen petition requesting improved pedestrian safety at the intersection. At the Dec. 1 community meeting a comprehensive overview of the traffic study was provided along with recommended improvements at the intersection. Those in attendance were asked to provide comments on the Recommended Crossing Location 3 improvements which include:
- A high visibility crosswalk to align with the AZ Canal path
- Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) device and Trail Crossing signs
- Narrow vehicle travel lanes at curve to provide an east side buffer
- Remove landscaping at curve - to improve visibility
- Passive detection for eastbound trail connection users
The recommended improvements and a summary of public comments will be presented to the Transportation Commission, for discussion and approval, on Jan. 19, 2023. The public is welcome to attend this meeting in person or watch via live stream.
