Scottsdale’s Adaptive Services restores services, looks to add staff

Scottsdale Adaptive Services coordinates programs and services designed to meet the needs of individuals of all ages who experience physical or intellectual disabilities. Located near Chaparral Park, the state-of-the-art Adaptive Services Center features a multi-sensory room, gaming space, a fully-accessible kitchen and hosts a variety of programs and events throughout the year. Adaptive Services activities also include Special Olympics sports teams, community outings, and inclusion services for Scottsdale Parks and Recreation programs – including after-school programs and summer camps.

In March of 2020 Adaptive Services had to suspend in-person programming due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This separation was incredibly difficult on participants, their family, and also on City staff. To bridge the gap, Adaptive Services staff launched virtual cooking classes, at-home activity kits and reached out frequently to participants to touch base and stay connected.

Thankfully, the Adaptive Services center is now able to run in-person programming, host events and is looking forward to the start of Special Olympics this fall. With full services restored, the center is looking to add more recreation staff, as well as to hire an Operations Supervisorlinks to external site who is responsible for training and supervising staff, creating and monitoring budgets, building programs and activities, conducting accommodation assessments, ensuring ADA compliance for recreation programming, and forming partnerships with outside agencies and non-profits. It's a fun, challenging and rewarding opportunity - if you are interested, apply today!
