Our academy is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to actively participate in the democratic process, understand local governance and make a positive impact on your community.

Our carefully curated curriculum covers a wide range of topics, from understanding the fundamentals of local government to exploring the intricacies of public policy.

Learn from city leaders and department heads and engage with them in an intimate setting.

Engage in dynamic and interactive learning experiences, group discussions, case studies, and hands-on activities to enhance your understanding of the inner workings of the city.

  • Planning and Development Services, Economic Development, Tourism and Events and Transportation.
  • Police, City Court, & City Judge
  • Scottsdale Water
  • Mayor’s office, City Clerk’s office, & City Attorney’s office
  • City Manager
  • City Treasurer, Budget, Finance, Auditor & Information Technology
  • Fire and Emergency Services.

Apply your newfound knowledge through community projects. The Citizen Academy emphasizes practical application, giving you the opportunity to work on projects that directly benefit your community.

Enroll in Scottsdale 101, Citizen Academy and embark on a transformative journey toward becoming and informed and empowered citizen.

The academy is open to Scottsdale residents, business owners and City of Scottsdale employees. You must be at least 18 years of age to participate. The nine-week program will be limited to 40 participants. Participation in seven of nine sessions is necessary to graduate from the academy. Two special assignments will be required as part of the curriculum.

Academy starts 9 a.m. Thursday, March 21, and will convene every Thursday morning until May 9. Graduation will be held 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, May 14.
