AUGUST 4, 2020 PRIMARY ELECTION

NOVEMBER 3, 2020 GENERAL ELECTION

The City of Scottsdale will hold a Primary Election on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and three Councilmembers. A General Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, to fill any elected offices that remain unfilled after the Primary Election. To be elected at the Primary Election, a candidate must receive a majority of all of the legal votes cast for that candidate’s race.


Candidates must file their nomination petitions and other nomination forms with the Scottsdale City Clerk’s Office by 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2020, to have their names appear on the Primary Election ballot. Write-in candidates are not required to file nomination petitions, but must file all other nomination forms by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2020.

Residents must be registered to vote by Monday, July 6, 2020 to be qualified to vote in the City of Scottsdale Primary Election. Residents must be registered to vote by Monday, October 5, 2020, to be qualified to vote in the City of Scottsdale General Election. Qualified City electors may apply for early ballots for the Primary Election beginning Sunday, May 3, 2020. Official Primary Election ballots will be available beginning Wednesday, July 8, 2020. Official General Election ballots will be available beginning Wednesday, October 7, 2020.

The polling places used in the City of Scottsdale will be the polling places established by Maricopa County and used for conducting previous elections in the City of Scottsdale, if available. The polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Voters who are not affiliated with any political party and who are on the Permanent Early Voting List will not automatically receive a ballot for Scottsdale’s August 4, 2020 Primary Election, and will have the option of requesting a political party ballot of their choice or a Scottsdale-only ballot. These voters must notify Maricopa County Elections (602-506-1511) of their selection to receive a mail-in ballot for the August 4, 2020 Primary Election. The U.S. Postal Service cannot automatically forward a ballot to another address. If you will be out of town and would like to receive an early ballot for Scottsdale’s Primary Election or Scottsdale's General Election, you must register your alternate mailing address with Maricopa County Elections. Your written request must include the following:

Full name Date of birth Maricopa County residence address Mail-to address Signature A note giving Maricopa County permission to send your early ballot to the address provided

A Candidate Information Pamphlet will be mailed to all registered voter households approximately thirty days prior to each election. English and Spanish versions of the pamphlets will be available online (scottsdale.vote and scottsdale.voto) and at the following Scottsdale locations beginning Wednesday, July 8, 2020, for the Primary Election, and Wednesday, October 7, 2020, for the General Election:
