Valley residents can push Scottsdale’s railroad park to the national title

Scottsdale’s McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park has punched its ticket to the championship game in a national matchup to determine the best park in the United States. It’s West versus South in the final, as Scottsdale’s iconic railroad park takes on Amerson River Park in Macon, Georgia.

The winner will be determined through an online vote and a tally of Instagram posts – whichever park earns the most by noon Saturday, April 6, will earn the 2019 ELGL Knope Award for the nation’s best park or open space.

Here’s how the public can push this Arizona gem to the national championship:

And (yes, you can do both!)

  • Post pics and video to Instagram
Show the nation why there is no place like McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park by posting pictures and videos using hashtag #ELGLKnope and tagging @ELGL50 and @theRailroadPark – you could even win great prizes (see below).

What’s in it for you?

Beside the pride of seeing an Arizona venue earn the national championship, the railroad park is hosting an Instagram photo contest that is absolute March Madness! The winner will receive the Ultimate Railroad Park package, which includes an annual family membership, one free birthday party or park reservation, four State Forty Eight Railroad Park t-shirts and four Holiday Lights VIP tickets.

To enter, post your favorite photos of the park on Instagram through Saturday, April 6, with the hashtag #ELGLKnope and tagging @ELGL50 and @theRailroadPark.

It’s the perfect excuse to take your kids, pets, friends and neighbors to the nation’s best park. Snap and post some fun photos – and help Arizona win the title!

What the heck is an ELGL Knope Award?

This annual award is given through Engaging Local Government Leaders, and is named for Deputy Parks Director Leslie Knope from the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. The award recognizes the best places in local government, and this year’s focus is the best publicly-owned local park or open space.

The bracket-style contest started with a field of the top 32 parks in the United States owned and managed by local governments.
