Suicide Awareness After Incident Outside of Scottsdale PD/FD HQ

The Scottsdale Police Department is bringing attention to Suicide Awareness during National Mental Health Awareness Month and resources that are available from the department after a male subject took his own life in front of Scottsdale Police and Fire Headquarters on May 10, 2022.

Around noon on May 10, 2022, Scottsdale Police and Fire personnel were at headquarters when a gunshot was heard.  Unknown if it was coming from inside or outside, personnel worked to discover the source of the sound.  A male subject was discovered just outside the front entrance to headquarters with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Scottsdale Police and Scottsdale Fire could not render lifesaving measures due to the injury the subject sustained.

Scottsdale Police detectives arrived and investigated the incident, which included notifying the next of kin with the support of the Police Crisis Intervention Specialists.  Our P.C.I.S. is a group of mental health professionals who work with our community members and employees to get through an initial mental or life crisis and help them work toward healing.

If you or anyone you know would like more information on the available resources by the Scottsdale Police Department, please contact our non-emergency number at 480-312-5000.  To contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, call 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
