Water preservation is incredibly important in the desert southwest, and the city of Scottsdale has a variety of programs in place to conserve water. This past monsoon season (2018) the city of Scottsdale Irrigation Program started a new rain shut off procedure.
The group took a very detailed approach to shutting off irrigation programs that were either watering or scheduled to water during rain events. This process involved reviewing the daily rain forecast, checking county rain gauges in the evening, and then shutting off irrigation programs (when defined points had been met), via a computerized irrigation control system. The results of this procedure yielded a water savings of 14,083,250 gallons of water!
The team looks forward to continuing this program in the future.
