Arizona Forward
is set to host its 41st annual Environmental Excellence Award on Saturday, April 29, and Scottsdale’s Bell94 Sports Complex has been announced as an award finalist. The awards gala is Arizona’s most prominent environmental awards program and is a benchmark for economic and environmental accomplishment.
Scottsdale’s Bell94 Sports Complex, which opened in 2022, features 6 full-sized multi-use sports fields to meet the increased demand for lighted sports fields in the community, creates the ability for Scottsdale to host larger tournaments and increases revenue opportunities. In addition to hosting national tournaments, the fields are used as parking for special events, such as the annual Barrett Jackson car show and WM Phoenix Open golf tournament. These two world-renowned events attract over a million visitors each year, and parking is a critical part of the events’ success.
Thoughtful use of water is always a priority in Scottsdale. To meet Scottsdale’s water conservation goals an innovative plan was crafted to irrigate the fields. An irrigation lake, located just north of the facility at DC Ranch Neighborhood Park, holds reclaimed water from the nearby water treatment plant, and that reclaimed water is used to irrigate the sport fields.
“The Bell94 Sports Complex was approved by Scottsdale voters in the 2019 Bond Election,” says Nick Molinari, Parks and Recreation Director. “Citizens recognized the need for additional recreation fields that could be used year-round. Sustainability was a driving factor in the project, and we were able to find an irrigation solution which also resulted in a neighborhood park featuring a lake. It’s a beautiful facility and a win for the Scottsdale community.”
Bell94 Sports Complex is located at the intersection of Bell Road and 94th Streets in Scottsdale. In addition to sports fields and walking paths, visitors can also delight in Scottsdale Public Art installations. Learn more about the facility here.
