The Fran and Ed Elliott Southwest Women Art Collection was recently gifted to the museum. It is one of the largest donations of artworks by women to an American institution. The collection features more than 300 works from 25 gifted women artists. It spotlights women artists who have been traditionally underrepresented in the art history of the American West.
All 25 artists have a connection to Arizona - having either resided, studied or worked here, according to the museum’s Director and CEO Mike Fox. He said the Elliott Collection will be enhanced by a significant collection of artworks by Scottsdale’s first professional resident artist Marjorie Thomas. Her exhibit features more than 150 drawings, paintings, sketches and photos.
