Nationwide Realty Investors acquires state land near Hayden Road and Loop 101. Nationwide was the successful bidder Sept. 5 at the public auction of a 134-acre parcel on the northwest corner of Hayden Road and the Pima Freeway Loop 101. The final bid price was $83 million. Nationwide plans to build a corporate campus on the site, which will accommodate 2,200 people, with room to grow to 3,000. Additional office, hotel and retail spaces are planned.
Monday deadline for Mayor's Constitution Day Contest. Students are invited to commemorate the signing of the constitution by submitting art/video or an essay. Prizes will be awarded in both categories for three age groups. Deadline is Monday, Sept. 17.
Open house set tonight on proposed Major General Plan Amendment. The public is invited to an open house to review and comment on the only proposed Major General Plan Amendment for 2018. The open house will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Copper Ridge School cafeteria, 10101 E. Thompson Peak Parkway. The Lone Mountain Self Storage proposal requests to change the land use designation from rural neighborhoods to commercial on a 5-plus acre site at the northwest corner of East Lone Mountain and North Scottsdale roads.
City hosts a pair of Bicycle Station Study open houses. The Transportation Department will host a pair of open houses to provide an update on bicycle parking in south Scottsdale. The first open house will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19. The second will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 22. Both will be at the Civic Center Library. You can also provide input online.

Airport proposes Butherus Drive name change. The city's Aviation Department is proposing to rename Butherus Driveto Aviation Way from Scottsdale Road to Airport Drive. The purpose for the name change is to promote the airport and aviation heritage through aviation-related street naming. Comments are welcome via email or in-person at two public meetings.
Mark your calendars: Scottsdale Mayor and Council Economic Development Breakfast, Sept. 27. Each year Scottsdale's Economic Development Department hosts this event to share accomplishments and provide a brief look at what's on the horizon. This year's event is from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.
Economic Development’s Annual Report is available. This report highlights the efforts of the Economic Development Department over the past fiscal year. A top priority included working to advance key employment centers within the city, most notably Old Town, as well as the area known as Crossroads East anchored at the Pima Freeway Loop 101 and Hayden Road.

Exhibit and programs celebrate Frank Lloyd Wright in Arizona. Frank Lloyd Wright came to the Scottsdale desert in 1937 and built Taliesin West - a primitive outpost that would become one of the most influential and enduring landmarks of American architecture. That legacy is being celebrated at an exhibit and program series at the Civic Center Library. Footprints on the Desert: Frank Lloyd Wright in Arizona runs from Sept. 15 to Dec. 31.
Free admission to local museums is part of Smithsonian magazine's Museum Day. Both the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West offer free admission Saturday, Sept. 22. Tickets, which provide free admission for two people, are available to download at Smithsonian Museum Day. A "Get A Ticket" button will appear on the Smithsonian website and you will be asked to enter your name, email address and confirm the museum you wish to attend before downloading your ticket.
