Enter Mayor's Constitution Day Contest by Tuesday. Commemorate the signing of the constitution by submitting art/video or an essay. Prizes will be awarded in both categories for three age groups. Deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Enjoy Scottsdale ArtWalk - an American original. Stroll at your own pace, wander into galleries through a festive area, and enjoy dramatic statues, bubbling fountains, tree-covered courtyards, famed restaurants and live music. ArtWalk runs from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays, year-round in Old Town.

Free admission to local museums is part of Smithsonian magazine's Museum Day, Sept. 21. Both the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West offer free admission Saturday, Sept. 21. Tickets, which provide free admission for two people, are available to download at Smithsonian Museum Day. A "Get A Ticket" button will appear on the Smithsonian website and you will be asked to enter your name, email address and confirm the museum you wish to attend before downloading your ticket.

Learn about non-major General Plan amendment request to add state statute requirements. The public is invited to learn about and provide feedback on Case 5-GP-2019 (PDF), a request for a non-major amendment to the city's General Plan 2001. Attend one of two open houses: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Copper Ridge School, 10101 N. Thompson Peak Parkway; or from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the city's Community Design Studio, 7506 E. Indian School Road. In addition, the Planning Commission will discuss, but not act on the item at its Wednesday, Sept. 25, meeting. It begins at 5 p.m. in City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. Since the 2001 General Plan adoption, there have been two state statute changes regarding the requirements municipalities must have as part of their adopted General Plan: An Energy Element and a Neighborhood Preservation and Revitalization Element. Staff also is recommending other content updates to bring the Scottsdale General Plan up to existing community conditions.

Pima Freeway construction impacts travel. The Arizona Department of Transportation continues widening the Loop 101 from Interstate 17 in Phoenix to Pima Road in Scottsdale. Learn more about the project and upcoming restrictions, and subscribe to updates at ADOT's project webpage.

City accepting donations for holiday giving programs. Sign up now to help those in need for the holiday Adopt-a-Senior and/or Adopt-a-Family programs. Recipients must meet eligibility requirements: Adopt-a-SeniorAdopt-a-Family.

Learn basic emergency skills through Scottsdale's CERT program. The Scottsdale Community Emergency Response program trains participants in basic disaster prevention and response skills such as disaster preparedness, fire suppression, disaster medical operations, search and rescue, team organization and disaster psychology. The six-week class runs weekly from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursdays, starting Oct. 10. (no class on Oct. 31). The class fills quickly so register soon.

Get schooled at September Neighborhood College classes. Register for the September classes: "Community Association Finances 101," Thursday, Sept. 19; and "Investor-Owned Properties and Potential Problems," Wednesday, Sept. 25. Both programs are free and run from 1-3 p.m. at Mustang Library, 10101 N. 90th St. If you weren't able to attend previous classes, you can watch them here.
