Scottsdale Update - July 25, 2022

With the 2022-2023 school year kicking off, we want to remind drivers to be extra cautious in and near school zones. Here’s are some tips:

  • Slow down and obey all traffic signs

  • Be alert and avoid distractions in high-traffic areas

  • Do not enter a crosswalk until the road is completely clear

  • Watch for student drivers who may still be learning the rules of the road

  • Learn and obey school rules for drop-off and pick-up

  • Do not stop in the street and avoid blocking traffic lanes or driveways

  • Yield to school buses or risk a $250 fine

  • Watch for bikes and pedestrians. Small children can be harder to see

  • Be vigilant! Put safety before personal convenience

Investing in Our Scottsdale: Water storage and recovery wells. Scottsdale is building four aquifer storage and recovery wells at strategic locations throughout the city as part of our commitment to maximizing renewable surface water supplies and minimizing the use of groundwater. This will strengthen long-term water supply sustainability by recharging high quality, potable water directly into the aquifer when water demand is low (late fall and winter) and retain the capability to withdraw groundwater during high demand or emergencies. Esri User Conference showcases GIS team’s work. Esri, an international supplier of geographic information systems software, hosts the conference each year to share how thousands of cities use GIS technology to solve problems and foster greater understanding. A Scottsdale image was featured in the general session, and other printed city maps were displayed throughout the week, including this map by GIS Analyst Mele Koneya showing Scottsdale Fire Department’s call load during the 2022 WM Phoenix Open.

Loop 101, Pima Road closures through Friday. Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) survey crews will be working on Loop 101 Pima Freeway from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. through Friday, July 29, at the following locations:

  • Southbound Pima Road, turning lane closed at Loop 101

  • Southbound Bell Road, turning lane closed at Loop 101
