HEADLINES

Energy management rebates to Scottsdale Water top $1 million. The city accepted a rebate check for nearly $127,000 for Scottsdale Water's participation in the APS Peak Solutions for Business program. The program awards high-volume customers for reducing their electricity load during peak demand. The check brings Scottsdale Water's total APS rebates to more than $1 million in less than 10 years.

Museum of the West hosts Barry M. Goldwater photography exhibit. In collaboration with the Barry & Peggy Goldwater Foundation and Arizona Highways magazine, Scottsdale's Museum of the West hosts "Photographs by Barry M Goldwater: The Arizona Highways Collection." The exhibition features the largest collection of photographs by Senator Goldwater and includes intimate family photos and personal items. The exhibition runs through June 23.

Operation Fix It provides assistance to Scottsdale home owners with exterior improvements to their properties when they are unable due to financial/physical constraints. 


EVENTS

Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction continues through Jan. 20. It's the granddaddy of all car events. The Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction runs through Jan. 20 to WestWorld bringing hundreds of the world's finest collector automobiles and thousands of spectators to town. The auction also features an exhibitor marketplace and hours of live worldwide television coverage on Discovery Channel, Motor Trend and other cable channels.  

Humana Rock 'N' Roll Marathon runs through Scottsdale Jan. 20. The full-marathon course enters Scottsdale along Indian School Road and includes a portion of Old Town. The half-marathon course includes Scottsdale sections of Thomas, McDowell, Hayden and Scottsdale roads. Get road closure information.

Jan. 20 Sunday A'Fair features "Peace and Community Day" with Motown sounds. Sunday A'Fair features free outdoor concerts by the Valley's top musicians, an arts-and-crafts market and fun activities for children and families. Sunday's event celebrates a day of unity with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. most Sundays through April 7, on the Civic Center Mall.

Sign up for the 2019 Regional Unity Festival and Walk. Mark your calendars for Saturday, Jan. 26, – "Walking in UNITY with our CommUNITY." The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at Tempe Beach Park with a festival featuring entertainment, food and information booths. Make a splash and earn some cash. Know someone 15 or older wanting to earn some cash? Now's the time for them to become a certified lifeguard - January classes are half price! The StarGuard lifeguard training certifies participants in rescues, basic first aid and CPR. Classes run 5 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 8 to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 22-Feb. 5. Once you're certified, you're eligible to apply for a lifeguard position with the city and other agencies that use lifeguards.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Registration open for Scottsdale City Government 101. Discover how city staff and elected officials work together to serve you! Participants will engage with executive level managers, directors and administrators from various city departments. You'll learn about the council/manager form of city government and meet your mayor and council, as well as charter officers. The academy begins in March and runs noon to 2 p.m. Thursdays for eight weeks.

Home Safe Home program helps seniors reduce falls. Fire Department volunteers visit seniors' homes to address potential tripping and falling hazards. They also can replace smoke alarm batteries or install a new smoke alarm.
