Scottsdale prepares for potential weather impacts

Potential overnight and morning snowfall is forecast in northern Scottsdale, along with continuing severe thunderstorms, and the city is preparing accordingly.

Scottsdale street maintenance crews are "on call" to address any major roadway issues the weather may cause.

If substantial snowfall occurs making neighborhood streets difficult to navigate with heavy trucks, solid waste collection on some routes may be delayed. This last occurred in February 2019 in sections of north Scottsdale.

Should that occur, Scottsdale solid waste staff will provide as much notice as possible to affected areas, including through the city's website and social media .

In an abundance of caution, trailheads and associated trails in the northern section of Scottsdale's McDowell Sonoran Preserve will be temporarily closed beginning at sunset Monday, Jan. 25.

Scottsdale sports and athletic fields may also be closed due to excessive rain.

Snow can be an exciting thing in our desert community, but the city reminds residents to be cautious on roads and respect closures that may be in place.
