The Scottsdale PD K9 unit would like to announce the retirement of one of our beloved Service Dogs.
PSD “Scout” retired last month after 6 ½ years of dedicated service. Scout had a distinguished career working patrol, assisting in the apprehension and surrender of numerous criminals. He also assisted the SWAT team on nearly 100 missions. Scout also proved to be a talented detection dog and developed an excellent reputation with various specialty units and neighboring agencies.
In his career, his powerful nose assisted the Drug Enforcement Unit, DEA Task Force, US Postal Service, US Customs and Border Protection, and of course our hard-working SPD patrol officers, as well as many other neighboring agencies. His alerts to Heroin, Methamphetamine, Cocaine and Marijuana measured in pounds throughout his career.
Scout’s proven reliability helped to establish probable cause in complicated drug conspiracy cases that resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars seized, as well as countless assets through RICO seizures.
Scout also liked to put his talents on display as he was able to place in the top 5 at the Desert Dog Regional K9 Trials numerous times. He placed in Narcotics Detection, Area Searches, and Tactical Obedience. He also certified every year he served with a “Patrol 2” certification through NPCA, which is the highest-level certification a team can receive and signifies a score of 100% in all areas of certification. Scout was able to accomplish all this while battling the effects of valley fever for the past 5 years.
Thank you very much PSD Scout for your dedicated service. You will be missed!
