Mayor’s May 15 proclamation sets city reopening plans in motion

In amendment number one to his March 18 emergency declaration, Mayor W.J. “Jim” Lane has directed that city facilities and amenities begin to reopen under Arizona’s Stay Healthy, Return Smarter, Return Stronger plan.

The amendment directs Scottsdale’s city manager to “more fully reopen outdoor park amenities” and resume programs, sports and classes in phases per the Governor’s executive orders and the city’s recovery plan.

Per that direction the city announced plans to open city pools, and playgrounds, basketball and volleyball courts. Additionally, he directed that city buildings and facilities that are normally open to the public be opened in phases beginning May 18.

As city buildings, amenities and programs re-open to the public, and as community business, restaurants, places of worship and social organizations begin operating again, the mayor urges the public to continue practices to limit and mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Each individual plays a critical role in the community’s health: please stay home if you are sick or have any symptoms of illness; wash or sanitize your hands frequently; stay six feet away from others wherever possible and cover your nose and mouth when you can’t keep your distance.
