Female-targeted academy to spark interest in fire careers

SFD to host introduction to fire service May 4

Scottsdale Fire Department is hosting an introduction to the fire service for females ages 16-21 this spring.  The Female Inspired Rescue Response Experience (FIRRE) will ignite an interest in the fire service, Scottsdale Fire Department, and its mission of caring for residents and visitors within an action-packed environment.

“Females don’t always naturally consider the fire service in their life plan,” says Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon. “The FIRRE academy is a safe environment for young women to learn about the career, meet our female firefighters, and get hands-on time with some of the equipment.”
The inaugural academy will be from 8 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, May 4, at the Hontz training facility.
The experience is open to females only.  Scottsdale residency is not required.  Space is limited to 20 attendees.
