Drinkwater bridge and underpass nearing completion

Repairs to Drinkwater bridge and underpass, including the reconstruction of the bridge area of Civic Center, are nearing the final phase of construction. Both are expected to reopen to the public this fall.

The final slab on the bridge deck was poured in mid-July. Work will now focus on installation of drainage, waterproofing and restoration of the surface above the bridge.

While the contractor will remove the north temporary pedestrian access across the bridge to allow for waterproofing and restoration work, the south pedestrian access point will remain in service.

Meanwhile, the underpass now consists of two tunnels.

Current construction work includes the final finish on the walls and ceiling and will be followed by the installation of a new tunnel lighting system.

The City Council approved the final construction contract for $1.21 million at the Jul. 1 council meeting. In total, the project has cost the city about $7.17 million over the three phases.
