On Sunday, Feb. 16, the McDowell Sonoran Preserve celebrated Sustainability Day with BYORB (Bring Your Own Reusable Bottle) event.
This day was dedicated to hikers taking the pledge to live a more sustainable life by only using reusable water bottles to help protect the environment from plastic waste.
Each of the trailheads involved provided recycling information to the public, including the fact that only 30 percent of single-use plastic water bottles are recycled in the United States.
Each hiker that signed the pledge was gifted his/her choice of a stainless-steel water bottle or a reusable straw with a cleaning wand. Staff and stewards handed out 100 straws and bottles at each participating trailhead.
Thank to all who participated.
