Fire sprinklers prove to be guardian angel

Jim Ford and care home staffScottsdale Deputy Fire Chief Jim Ford checked in recently with the staff from the Horizon Manor No. 1 residential care facility.

The facility and its residents are back to normal after a treadmill motor caught fire in a recreation room last month.

The home’s sprinkler system helped contain the blaze, which according to Ford, would have quickly grown to threaten both lives and the entire facility.

“I’m convinced sprinklers saved lives in this instance,” he said.

Thanks to the effectiveness of sprinklers, there was additional time to safely evacuate the residents. There were no injuries and residents were back in their home in just three days after the blaze.

Facility staff say they are thankful both for the sprinkler system and the quick action and support of the Scottsdale Fire Department.

“They were tremendous,” said Owner Maribell Gamboa.
