There are horses, dogs, cats, birds and other pets throughout the city. Keeping them healthy is not just good for them, it's also good for the streams, rivers, urban lakes and other bodies of water in our community. Horse and pet waste left on the ground can carry disease into our streets by rain and sprinkler runoff.
City ordinances require proper cleanup and disposal of horse manure at commercial facilities. Even citizens who are not subject to these ordinance requirements can help reduce stormwater system pollution.
BMP's for Horse Care:
- Promptly clean up horse manure on your property.
- When trail riding on the City's trail system, clean up after your animals.
- "Adopt" trails for routine maintenance and waste cleanup.
- The City provides refuse containers and disposal service specifically for horse properties.
- Keep all horses as healthy as possible.
- Take special precautions when horses are sick to keep waste cleaned up.
- Properly dispose of old or unused horse medicine and empty medicine containers.
