Traffic Restrictions Update

The following is a partial list of road construction projects and traffic restrictions taking place in Scottsdale Feb. 2 – Feb. 12. For more information, contact: sferrara@ScottsdaleAz.gov.

WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN ROAD CLOSURES AND RESTRICTIONS
The Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament continues through Feb. 5, at the Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale, 17020 N. Hayden Road.
 
To accommodate the large crowds drawn annually to this event, several local street closures and restrictions are required.  Local area residents are encouraged to use the Loop 101 Freeway instead of surface streets near the Tournament Players Club. Here are the restrictions:

• Bell Road is CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC from Perimeter Drive to Hayden Road beginning at 6 a.m. Jan. 30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 5

• 82nd Street between Princess Drive and Bell Road is CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC except event shuttle buses from 6 a.m. Jan. 30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 5

The following streets are restricted to residents, resort guests and event attendees with the appropriate passes from 6 a.m. Jan. 30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 5:

  • Princess Circle southbound (when coming from Scottsdale Road)
  • Princess Drive west of Hayden Road
  • Hayden Road between Union Hills Drive and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard
  • Union Hills Drive east of Hayden Road
  • Princess Drive between Hayden Road and Pacesetter Way
  • 82nd Street between Union Hills Drive and Princess Drive
  • Perimeter Drive between Union Hills Drive and Pacesetter Way

All areas within the Perimeter Center business park are accessible from the Loop 101 Pima Freeway and Princess Drive or Bell Road.

Spectators heading to the Phoenix Open are encouraged to carpool or take the new Hospitality Trolley to reduce congestion. Phoenix Open parking locations and travel directions are available at: http://www.wastemanagementphoenixopen.com

Several options are available to residents and visitors seeking up-to-the-minute traffic and parking conditions. They include:

  • Public safety Twitter feeds from the Scottsdale Police Department. These timely messages include breaking traffic news relating to Scottsdale special events. Sign up here: http://twitter.com/scottsdalepd.
  • The city of Scottsdale’s 312-CITY (2489) information hotline. The city of Scottsdale’s web site at www.ScottsdaleAZ.gov.  Simply click on the special events link under the “hot topics” area for information on the Waste Management Phoenix Open and other upcoming special events in Scottsdale.

59TH ANNUAL PARADA DEL SOL PARADE: FEB. 11
The 59th Annual Parada del Sol Parade is Sat. Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon.  This is the world’s largest horse-drawn parade with nearly 1,000 horses.  There are also over 150 entries including floats and bands.  The theme for this year is Arizona 100 years of “Gettin Western.”

The following streets will be closed from approximately 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. to accommodate parade participants:

**Scottsdale Road will be CLOSED to all traffic from McDowell to Indian School roads; as well as all cross roads between McDowell and Indian School roads, including major cross roads like Thomas Road, Oak Street and Osborn Road.

**Indian School Road will be CLOSED to all traffic from Goldwater to Drinkwater Boulevard.

The annual Trail's End celebration presented by Scottsdale Downtown will begin immediately following the Parada del Sol Parade in Old Town Scottsdale on 1st Avenue, between Brown Avenue and Scottsdale Road.

**First Avenue and Main Street from Brown Avenue to Scottsdale Road will be closed for Trails End Celebration until approximately 6 p.m.

This is a huge block party for all ages, including the Kid's Area with games, pony rides and much more.

SCOTTSDALE ROAD AND CAREFREE HIGHWAY RESTRICTIONS IN PLACE
Lane restrictions are in place at Carefree Highway and Scottsdale Road in both directions east of Scottsdale Road and south of Carefree Highway from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Saturday until Feb. 13 for new cable service installation across Carefree Highway and Scottsdale Road.
** Plan #1 - Eastbound median lane closed, left turns restricted east of Scottsdale Road during the night only.
** Plan #2 - Eastbound curb lane closed east of Scottsdale Road
** Plan #3 - Westbound traffic shifted to the eastbound side of the road, eastbound left turns will be restricted east of Scottsdale Road during nighttime work hours.
 ** Plan #4 – Southbound curb lane closed, northbound curb lane closed south of Carefree Highway
** Plan #5 – Southbound median lane closed, northbound median lane closed, northbound left turns restricted south of Scottsdale Road.

INDIAN BEND AND HAYDEN ROADS RESTRICTED
Both directions of Hayden and Indian Bend roads will be restricted from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Feb. 3 for potholing and boring work necessary for installation of new cable lines.  Work is scheduled in three segments as follows:
** Plan #1 – North and southbound curb lanes restricted on Hayden Road.
** Plan #2 – North and southbound middle lanes restricted on Hayden, 1 westbound left turn lane on Indian Bend
**Plan #3 -  North and southbound #1 lanes restricted on Hayden, one westbound left turn lane on Indian Bend

NEW UTILITY AND STREET WORK THROUGHOUT THE CITY
**Both directions along Rio Verde from 120th Street to 144th Street will be directed by flaggers to permit roadway repairs through Feb. 14.
**Southbound lane of Pima Road at Ranch Road will be shifted to the northbound left turn lane through Feb. 14 to replace a water valve.

CONTINUING UTILITY AND STREET WORK THROUGHOUT THE CITY

**Westbound center lane on Shea Boulevard at 74th Street will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Feb. 3 for utility maintenance.
**Southbound Scottsdale Road at Earll Drive will be restricted during the evening from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Feb. 2 for water line work.
**Northbound right turn lane and curb lane closed on Shea Boulevard at Aberdeen Road, west of 64th Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Feb. 3.
** North and southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane on 64th Street and Holly and traffic shifted to eastside of roadway from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 3 for sewer work.
**Eastbound curb lane of Shea Boulevard will be closed between 68th and 69th streets from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Feb. 3 for driveway repair.
**Both directions on Dynamite Boulevard/Rio Verde from 114th Street to 120th Street will be directed by flaggers through Feb. 7 for roadway repairs.  Work will be performed in segments along this stretch of roadway.
**Eastbound curb lane closed along Via de Ventura and Hayden Road from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Feb. 10 for driveway revision.
**Southbound curb lane of Scottsdale Road just south of Thomas Road will be restricted from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Feb. 13 for utility work.
**Various segments going southbound on Scottsdale Road and Drinkwater Boulevard will be restricted from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Feb. 13 for utility work.  Shadow truck will be in use.

CONSTRUCTION OF NOISE WALL AT LOOP 101 AND CACTUS ROAD
The Maricopa Regional Supplemental Noise Walls project consists of the design and construction of two walls within Scottsdale:

**Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) and 90th Street (northwest corner) City of Scottsdale
**Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) and Cactus Road (northwest corner) City of Scottsdale
 
Construction of the noise walls is expected to take six months. No restrictions are scheduled at this time, but crews will be working in the area on weekdays starting at 6 a.m.
