PimaRdImprovementMapOn June 1, 2010 construction crews began improvements to Pima Road from Via de Ventura to the Arizona Canal.  When complete, Pima Road will have two lanes in each direction, a landscaped median, bike lanes, a sidewalk on the east side of the road, new streetlights, landscape and storm water improvements. No additional land for right-of-way from either Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community or the City of Scottsdale residents will need to be purchased.

The Pima Road Improvement Project is a joint endeavor with the City of Scottsdale, Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, Maricopa Association of Governments and Arizona Department of Transportation. The Pima Road Improvement Project is part of the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Transportation Plan, with 70 percent of the funding provided by Proposition 400.

Preliminary Construction Schedule

Improvements from Via de Ventura to Indian Bend begin June 1, 2010.

The first phase of the project began June 1, 2010 from the Arizona Canal to Inner Circle Drive and is expected to last through September 2010.  During construction, Pima Road will be closed to all north and southbound traffic in this area.

The intersection of Pima Road and Indian Bend Road will remain open to east and westbound travel during construction.

Part of this project includes the installation of the large storm drain through the intersection of Pima and Indian Bend roads.  A temporary closure of the entire intersection for up to five days will be required in July to install the storm drain.

Once the first section of Pima Road is complete, the next phase of this project will be from Inner Circle Drive to Via de Ventura.  Again, Pima Road will be closed to all north and southbound traffic in this section, including the path on the west side of the street, and the intersection of Pima Road and Via de Ventura will remain open to east and westbound travel.  This section of Pima Road is expected to be completed in February 2011.
