Neighborhood Traffic Management Project - Granite Reef Road and 86th Street
The City of Scottsdale Transportation Department was been working with residents in two areas, Granite Reef Road from Osborn Road to Thomas Road and 86th Street from Earll Drive to Thomas Road, to address speeding and cut-through traffic concerns.
UPDATE
On March 19, 2009 the Transportation Commission approved funding for this neighborhood traffic management project. Click here to see the presentation to the Commission.
Two public meetings were held to discuss different the different types of speed control devices and the placement of those devices in each area. Meeting attendees worked together and agreed to proposed neighborhood traffic management plans that will improve the quality of life in each area.
Initially a speed table at the intersection of Earll Drive and Granite Reef Road was proposed the as part of the original plan. A petition circulated by residents was submitted to the Commission supporting a roundabout at this intersection instead of a speed table.
Based on the support from the neighborhood, the Transportation Commission voted to move forward with a plan that would include all the components shown in the proposed plans below, but the proposed speed table at Earll Drive and Granite Reef Road would be replaced with a roundabout instead.
The proposed plan for Granite Reef now consists of two raised median islands north of Earll Drive, a roundabout at Granite Reef Road and /Earll Drive, and two raised median islands south of Earll Drive.
The proposed plan for 86th Street includes two raised median islands to facilitate pedestrian crossings across 86th Street to the park. Through this neighborhood meeting process, it was requested that the city improve the pedestrian crossing environment between the neighborhood and Pima Park.
