What is the Swim Mentor Program all about?
The Swim Mentor program is a volunteer program for individuals 18 and up. Swim Mentors assist lifeguards in teaching swim lessons to children in Scottsdale. Last year in Arizona, 15 children died in drowning accidents. The City of Scottsdale believes that our best prevention of these horrific tragedies is to teach children swimming skills and safety techniques. It is a wonderful opportunity for you to make a difference in the children’s lives. Some of you have an aquatics background, but for others, it is something new for you. This program welcomes both experienced and inexperienced swimmers.
As a Swim Mentor you will learn many aspects of the City of Scottsdale’s Learn to swim program. With the addition of volunteers to the swim classes, students will receive more one on one attention while learning and practicing their swimming skills, which will help in the swimming progression of the children. Adding volunteers to the swim lessons allows more children into the program to learn how to swim.
