Scottsdale's newest library is open
Check out Appaloosa, Scottsdale’s newest addition to its stable of award-winning library locations.
The library opened earlier this week in the Silverstone community, site of the former Rawhide Western Town. Appaloosa is a 21,500-square-foot full service branch library that houses a teen center, early learning and story room, a café/newsroom, quiet lounge and study rooms. The main public reading room houses 80,000 volumes and there will be 48 public computers.

Scottsdale’s Web site ranked among nation’s best Scottsdale’s Web site is among the best for cities its size in the nation, according to the Center for Digital Government and Digital Communities Magazine. Scottsdale placed ninth among cities with a population between 125,000 and 249,999 in this year’s survey, conducted by the center in partnership with the National League of Cities.

Two events celebrate veterans Nov. 11 Citizens are invited to participate in two memorable events on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, in Scottsdale -- an 11 a.m. dedication of a new sculpture at City Hall and a 3 p.m. ceremony in front of a historic boxcar at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Speakers at the park will include Mayor W. J. "Jim" Lane, U.S. Rep. Harry Mitchell, former City Councilman and Maricopa County Supervisor Jim Bruner, former Honorary French Consul Claude Prosnier and Arizona Assistant Adjutant General, Col. Matthew Brown.
